ITC Niveau III Formation en thermographie

The goal of the ITC four-day Level III training course is to enable the Level II thermographer to set up and run a successful condition monitoring thermography program. As such, the course provides guidance for acquiring and developing the necessary people, resources and technologies.

Course duration: 4 days
Prerequisite: ITC Level II Thermography Training

Certification: The learning objectives, contact hours, and written exam of ITC's Level III course are based on the recommendations outlined by ANSI/ASNT CP-105 and CP-189 of the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing.

Infrared Course Benefits

By the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Define infrared thermography
  • Explain the three modes of heat transfer
  • State where infrared energy fits into the electromagnetic spectrum in relation to visible light
  • Identify the elements of conduction heat transfer and their effect on heat transfer rates
  • Compare and contrast meanings of the terms: range, level, and span
  • Describe how the intensity of emitted IR from a surface changes with temperature
  • Identify the elements of conduction heat transfer and their effect on heat transfer rates
  • Explain the difference between total radiation and emitted radiation
  • Identify a conduction thermal pattern
  • Describe the relationships between emissivity, reflectivity, and transmissivity
  • Explain how emissivity and reflectivity can affect the IR image and temperature readings
  • Identify safety requirements for thermographers and accompanying personnel for IR surveys
  • Name the following standards organizations and explain their respective roles in the field of thermography: ASNT, BINDT, ISO, ASTM, NFPA

Hands-on work is emphasized with six labs including heat transfer, IR window transmissivity measurement, emissivity cavity effect, written practice and problem severity criteria development. The course includes several Excel-based software programs making it easy for the student to calculate heat loss from a surface, calculate load correction, estimate avoided costs, estimate energy savings based on improving building wall R-Value, develop an equipment condition status report and develop a program budget.
